2011 RACE NEWS
Jeff Williams was Flawless in 2011
Congratulations to Jeff Williams for a flawless season in 2011. Jeff and his team set a pace that could not be matched. Jeff is the 2011 Irwindale SWTT Champion and the 2011 SWTT Touring Champion.
Jeff put on a show that was unbelievable by winning 11 out of 11 races and winning 10 out of 11 pole positions. Jeff was unbeatable with his talent as a driver, his ability to set up his own chassis, and build his own engines. He has been in this series for 12 years and only missed one race in all of that time. He has earned everything that he has been able to achieve. He has continued to learn about the trucks and hone his talents to drive them.
When Jeff joined this series he was not an instant winner but always gave it all he had, and watched and learned. Now he reaps his rewards.
Jeff loves this series and will always do everything he can to help the series and the teams within.
The series has never had anyone win every race of the season but Jeff and his team pulled it off. The team consists of the following people.
Vern Williams
Jacki Williams
Dave Beattie
Clark Farrar
Camren Beattie
Josh Davis
So congratulations Jeff Williams on your achievements and for doing things that haven’t been done before.
Jeff was unbeatable in 2011 and he and the team are ready to celebrate, perhaps a party is in order for the team.
February 5 - Blythe, CA.
The South West Tour Trucks invaded the city of Blythe, Ca. last Saturday and a good time was had by all. Thanks to all of you that made the trip, I wish it had been more. Some teams arrived on Friday and dropped off their vehicles at the track to get a good pit space. Other teams came out on Saturday morning and still had plenty of time to set up their pit area and get all the practice they needed.
The weather was awesome with temperatures in the low 70s and the sun was shining. The track conditions could not have been better and the trucks were fast.
Qualifying was as follows:
Jeff Williams
Ed Cutler
Ronnie Davis Jr.
Clarke Farrar
Cecil Phelps
Dan Coburn
George Perret
The trophy dash was very exciting with Cecil, Tony, Dan, and George fighting it out for that trophy. George Perret came through turn one and two in the lead on lap #1 but pressed it a little too hard and spun coming off turn two. Tony, Dan, and Cecil were sent scattering to miss the blue duce and contact was avoided by all. The blue duce made its rotations and continued on its way without the use of a caution flag. A couple of laps later Tony Curtis slammed the wall on the front stretch and did a good bit of damage to his #07 truck. The trophy dash was won by Cecil Phelps.
Everyone pitched in to help Tony repair his truck, parts were loaned and extra labor was offered and Tony made the main event.
Jeff Williams rolled a 5 for the invert and started inside third row. Cecil Phelps was on the pole and Clarke Farrar was outside pole. The Blythe track is pretty much a one groove track and being on the inside really helps. The first three trucks on the inside were able to come off turn two running first, second, and third. That was Cecil Phelps, Ronnie Davis, and Jeff Williams. The three trucks ran nose to tail for about five laps, and Ed Cutler ran fourth and Clarke Farrar ran fifth. On lap five the #78 of Davis drifted a little high in turn three and the #28 of Jeff Williams slipped under him and took second place. As the second position was exchanged the #78 bellowed out smoke and retired to the infield with transmission problems.
When the green came back out Phelps and Williams battled it out. Tthe two trucks looked as though they were hooked together and after a few laps the #28 was able to get along side of Phelps on the front stretch and make the pass.
With Phelps now in second he fell into the sights of Ed Cutler and a few laps later Cutler made the pass on Phelps and moved into second place dropping Phelps to third. As the laps clicked off it appeared that Phelps was having handling problems then pulled off the track with a flat tire and Clarke Farrar was now running third.
Dan Coburn and Tony Curtis were fighting for fourth place and George Perret was secure in 6th. Phelps returned to the track several laps down and finished 7th and Ronnie Davis finished 8th with mechanical problems.
Jeff Williams and Ed Cutler were the only two trucks on the lead lap but everyone seemed to have someone to race with and a great time was had by all.
